iCARE AND MARIE STOPES INTERNATIONAL PROVIDE FAMILY PLANNING AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH SERVICE FOR FEMALE WORKERS
Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam- iCare collaborated with Marie Stopes International launched new health programs for female workers in June 2018 in Dong Nai industrial. This program provided high quality reproductive healthcare check program with reasonable price to help employees to take care of their reproductive health better.
In Vietnam, the percentage of female workers have reproductive tracts infections and unintended pregnancies raised every single year. According to statistics from the Institute for Reproductive Health and Family, Vietnamese women have 20 abortion cases each day. Among them, students and workers are accounted for 30-40% (Quang Binh Online, 2014). Marie Stopes International also published a concerning number that Vietnamese women have an average 2,5 abortion cases in their life and there was up to 31,000 among them died from unsafe abortion each year (Marie Stopes International). Besides that, medical experts of Vinmec hospital warn additionally that 90% of women have reproductive tracts infections and 70% of them is the one who has income in 2015. To female workers, 70% of them have reproductive tracts and they also face unsafe abortion when it has 20% unintended pregnancies. Being aware of this serious matter, iCare launches a new program Family planning and reproductive health service to deal with this problem.
iCare is a profit and charity organization with many experienced years in Vietnam. We launched successful programs for workers’ life such as supporting them to buy household appliances with low-interest rate instalment or organizing workshops about healthy life, etc. Besides that, our partner in this program is Marie Stopes International - an international non-governmental organization providing contraception and safe abortion for more than 37 countries in the world including Vietnam. They served health services for the large of women and get convinced achievement in Vietnam.
The reasons for reproductive tracts infections and unintended pregnancies rooted from both subjective and objective causes. Firstly, with poor knowledge of sexual health, female workers put themselves in dangerous diseases which threatened their life. They are not provided reproductive health knowledge about how to protect themselves and its importance ( Cong an nhan dan, 2006). Secondly, many couples can not have safe contraceptives leading to unintended pregnancies and they choose abortion because of the financial condition. This status is one of the reason causing cervical cancer or other reproductive tracts infections if they are not provided with an unsafe abortion service. Overall, these issues can be the potential risk to women if they do not have the annual reproductive health check with the aim of examining and finding out suitable solutions timely. However, many female workers claim that they have certain financial burdens and they do not have enough money together with time to get a regular sexual reproductive health check-up. Therefore, our new program about reproductive health and family planning services began.
Family planning and reproductive health service are the collaboration programs of profit social organization iCare and Marie Stopes International for female workers to have better conditions to access high-quality health check services at affordable price. Family planning and Reproductive health service were introduced to female workers with the hope that we can reduce the number of women who get reproductive tracts infections and take care of their reproductive health better. In this program, our target audience is female workers in Dong Nai industrial area from 15-49 years old. We and our partner provided 6 health packages with the purpose: “ Live healthily" for female workers. These packages include regular reproductive health check, screening for reproductive tract infections and sexually transmitted diseases, checking for cervical cancer by the Thinprep method, prophylaxis of cervical cancer, implanted contraceptives and put the contraceptive patch TCU380A and prophylaxis cervical cancer by VIA method. In all 6 packages, we especially focus on the importance of regular reproductive health check package. Female workers will be given advice about reproductive health and do various test related to reproductive health as cervical, breast and gynaecology. Besides this one, other packages about family planning were provided. Our program helped to find out soon signals of diseases through the reproductive line and sex by carrying out clinical tests to give backup treatment time for patients.
Apart from, we also provided one of the most modern and safe contraceptives in the world: birth control implant. This birth control method has a duration up to 3-5 years with 99,95% contraceptives effect and according to fertility hospital Tu Du, they recorded no cases unintended pregnancies during using this method period (Marie Stopes Vietnam). The new female worker program is the chance for female employees to experience an array of benefits we bring about. The first one is to be ensured the quality of international medicine Marie Stopes International. Additionally, female workers will be served these packages with reasonable price for their income. We support workers to get our service by offering them to pay by instalment form from 2-5 months. By instalment form, workers can pay just from 300.000VND each month. The price for our service just about 2.7 million VND for the highest price and 700.000VND for the cheapest one. In this program, female workers can save travel time because our medical center is in the center of Dong Nai city: 267/5A Phan Trung street, Tan Tien ward, Bien Hoa city, Dong Nai.
